UNIBEN Alumni Asaba Branch Presents “Green Plant” to Ibori Golf and Country Club

Asaba, Delta State – July 2026

The University of Benin Alumni Association, Asaba Branch was received in grandeur at the Ibori Golf and Country Club for a special Green Plant Presentation aimed at strengthening alumni relations and supporting environmental beautification.

Leading the delegation was the Chairman, UNIBEN Alumni Association Asaba Branch, Comrade McCartney, who was warmly received by the Captain of Ibori Golf and Country Club, Alex Joe.

Present at the presentation were Iyio Obiajulu Nelson, Liaison Officer of the Ibori Golf and Country Club, and distinguished member of the UNIBEN Asaba Alumni, Lady Ejiro Umukoro.

In his welcome remarks, Iyio Obiajulu Nelson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to associate with “one of our own,” describing Captain Alex Joe as “a wonderful alumnus and exemplary leader.”

Nelson also shared his personal UNIBEN journey as a former UNIBEN alumnus: “I started my degree at UNIBEN, but when I wanted to change course from Arts, I left for Economics at IFE.”

He further disclosed that since the Captain began his tenure, a Cart Garage was built and commissioned by the Patron of the Ibori Golf and Country Club, the Asagba, Professor Epiphany Azinge. The project was funded by the Asagba and built by the golf club, further enhancing the Club’s profile.

In his acceptance speech following the presentation of the Green Plant Initiative, Captain Alex Joe noted that the visit was in recognition of the Golf Club’s prestige and contributions to the community.
“It was two weeks ago that we were informed of this engagement on behalf of UNIBEN, and today we are here to recognize the Ibori Golf and Country Club,” the President stated.

While receiving the green plants, Captain Alex Joe described Ibori Golf and Country Club as one of the best golf courses in Sub Sahara Africa.
“Ibori Golf boasts of lush greens, 18-holes, and a valuation of over 750,000 steps. It is more than a sport — it is exercise for your health, a place for special connections, and an unassuming sport with great value,” he said.

The Captain of the Golf Club added that the plant presentation would be a testament in years to come.
“When you come back here again, these plants would have grown. When next you visit, you will eat from the fruits,” he said.

The Chairman of the UNIBEN Alumni Association Asaba, Comrade McCartney, also appreciated Lady Ejiro Umukoro for her “enterprising and superb leadership” as a great Ambassador of the University of Benin Alumni Association. He thanked the Captain and Iyio Obiajulu Nelson for his warm reception and liaison role that made the visit seamless.

The event ended with a tour of the Club’s facilities and renewed commitment to collaboration between UNIBEN Alumni Asaba and Ibori Golf and Country Club.
