Abuja, Nigeria — The Association of Nigerian Authors is taking its copyright capacity-building drive to the North Central zone. ANA will hold the second phase of its nationwide Workshop on Copyright, Reproduction Rights and Royalty Management in Abuja on June 26 and 27, 2026.

The two-day programme at Mamman Vatsa Writers’ Village, Mpape, begins daily at 9:30 a.m. It follows the successful Southwest edition held in Ibadan on June 18–19, 2026.

Organized by ANA in partnership with the Nigerian Copyright Commission and the Reproduction Rights Society of Nigeria, the workshop is themed “Literary Development in Relation to Rights, Royalties and Privileges.”

ANA President Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi will serve as Chief Host. The lead facilitators are Mallam Denja Abdullahi, former ANA President; Maik Ortserga, former National General Secretary; Dr. Keyna Eshika, ANA National Financial Secretary and Abuja workshop coordinator; and Dr. Aisha Zakari, an intellectual property lawyer.

What authors will learn
Sessions will break down copyright law in Nigeria, authors’ rights under current legislation, the NCC’s role in protection, and how Collective Management Organizations work. Facilitators will also cover reproduction rights, secondary rights, licensing procedures, and royalty collection/distribution.

A key focus: practical strategies. Writers will get hands-on advisory support and direct guidance on registering works with the Nigerian Copyright Commission. The goal is to help authors identify revenue opportunities and understand the economic privileges tied to copyright ownership.

Why it matters now
ANA says the workshop targets authors, publishers, and literary stakeholders across North Central and beyond. The timing is strategic — barely a week after Ibadan — as Nigerian writers face growing challenges protecting work in digital and print markets.

“ANA remains committed to strengthening writers’ capacity, promoting respect for intellectual property, and building a literary ecosystem where authors thrive creatively and economically,” the association stated.
