Comr. McCartney Obrotu Emerges as Chairman in UBAA Elections, Unveils Ambitious Goals for 2026–2028

The University of Benin Alumni Association (UBAA), Asaba Branch, has elected Comr. McCartney Obrotu as its new Chairman, alongside a team of dedicated executives, to lead the association for the next two years. The election, held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, was a pivotal moment for the branch, marking the beginning of a new era of growth, unity, and purpose.
The newly elected officers include:
- Comr. McCartney Obrotu – Chairman
- Mrs. Angela O. Isibor – Vice Chairman
- Chukwuemeka C. E. D. Dunamis – Secretary
- Chukwurah Bridget O. – Assistant Secretary
- Ossai Chukwunweike Jerry – Financial Secretary
- Omashola Eyekpiti Shedrack – Treasurer
- Nkem Uwafili – Public Relations Officer
- Magdaline Supa Chiemeke – Immediate Past Chairman (IPC)
The election was conducted under the leadership of the Electoral Committee, headed by Comr. Victor Mokogwu as Chairman, Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Nwachukwu as Secretary, and Stella Maris Chidi as the first member, ensuring a transparent and credible process.
Goals and Vision of the New Chairman
In his inaugural address, Comr. McCartney Obrotu outlined a bold and transformative vision for the UBAA Asaba Branch. His administration will focus on the following key goals:
- Aggressive Membership Drive: Expanding the association’s membership base to strengthen its network and impact.
- Members’ Business Promotion: Facilitating platforms and opportunities to promote and support businesses owned by members.
- Scholarship Awards: Introducing a scholarship program to reward the best-performing student with the highest GPA at the University of Benin.
- Leadership Training: Organizing training sessions to develop leadership skills among members and the younger generation of alumni.
- Members’ Welfare: Prioritizing the well-being and welfare of alumni members through targeted initiatives and support systems.
- Secretariat Building Project: Continuing the drive to complete the Board of Trustees (BOT) project for the association’s Secretariat building.
- Strategic Committees: Establishing dedicated committees to ensure the effective implementation of the association’s goals and objectives.
Speaking on his vision, Comr. Obrotu emphasized the need for unity and collective effort, stating, “This administration is committed to building a stronger, more inclusive UBAA Asaba Branch. Together, we will achieve milestones that will not only benefit our members but also leave a lasting legacy for the University of Benin and the community.”
The new leadership team is expected to hit the ground running, with plans already underway to begin executing these goals.
