Nigeria’s Capital Set to Become a Hub for Book Lovers as Abuja Hosts 2025 Book City Event

In a bid to promote literacy and foster a culture of reading, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, is gearing up to host the 2025 Book City Event. The theme of this year’s event, “Reading: A Unifying Factor,” resonates deeply in a world where division and misinformation often dominate the narrative.

Slated to kick off on April 24, the event promises to bring together a diverse array of stakeholders, including students, teachers, parents, academics, researchers, policymakers, and government agencies. The goal? To create a society where reading is an integral part of everyday life, driving personal growth and literacy.

But this isn’t just another event – it’s a call to action. As Chief ‘Loye Olowookere, Coordinator of the Network of Book Clubs and Reading Culture Promoters in Nigeria (NBRP), aptly puts it, “Reading has the power to transform lives, and we’re committed to making more Nigerians read by making books accessible to them.”

So, what can you do to be a part of this movement? Join the online reading event on April 5, featuring authors and book lovers, to experience the transformative power of reading firsthand.

Participate in the road walk on April 10 along the major streets of Abuja, to create awareness about books and the importance of reading. Abuja’s streets will come with book lovers and advocates for literacy.

Attend the flag-off event on April 24 at the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, to connect with like-minded individuals and organizations passionate about promoting reading.

Together, we can unleash a culture of reading that unites, inspires, and empowers Nigerians from all walks of life. Join the movement and be a part of shaping a brighter, more literate future for our nation!
