Creativity, Inspiring Stories, Industry Insights take Centre Stage at London Book Fair 2025

The second day of The London Book Fair 2025 was abuzz with creativity and innovation, as thousands of visitors flocked to Olympia to experience the latest cultural conversations in the publishing industry. From renowned authors and illustrators to industry professionals and creatives, the day’s programme was packed with inspiring talks, workshops, and networking opportunities.

One of the highlights of the day was a talk by Dan Houser, Creator and Founder of Absurd Ventures, the legendary entertainment and video games company. Houser shared his passion for reading and how it has impacted his creative process, including his work on iconic video games. He also delved into the process of writing for different formats, offering valuable insights to aspiring writers and industry professionals.

Monica Ali, author of five books, including the acclaimed novel “Brick Lane,” was the Author of the Day. In conversation with Booker Prize Chair Chris Power, Ali discussed her work, inspiration, and screen adaptations. Her thought-provoking conversation shed light on the complexities of storytelling and the power of literature to transcend borders and cultures.

Illustrators took center stage at Author HQ, where Jamie Smart, the first-ever Creative of the Fair, led a popular talk and draw-along. Smart shared his award-winning career, including his beloved “Bunny vs. Monkey” comic series, and offered tips and advice to aspiring illustrators.

The Illustrators’ Afternoon Networking Reception provided a unique opportunity for fellow illustrators to connect, share their artistic processes, and learn from each other. This vibrant gathering showcased the diversity and creativity of the illustration community.

In a thought-provoking panel discussion, authors and industry professionals explored the complexities of writing from the perspective of minority groups. Georgina Kamsika, Ravi Mirchandani, and Christy Lefteri examined the fine line between cultural appropriation and authentic representation, sparking a nuanced conversation about the responsibilities and challenges of storytelling.

The Influence & Impact: Shaping the Future of Publishing panel shed light on the growing influence of book influencers and their role in shaping the publishing industry. Daphne Tonge, Tammi Clarke, and Emma Quick shared their insights on the evolving landscape of book marketing and promotion.

Lucy Clarke, Sunday Times bestselling author, discussed the process of adapting her novel “The Castaways” into a TV series. Joined by Ben Harris, Judith Murray, and Mike Benson, Clarke shared her experiences and offered practical advice on navigating the complex world of screen adaptations.

A Fireside Chat Session explored the impact of AI on the audiobook industry. Helena Gustafsson, Ana Maria Allessi, Eric Bartoletti, and Ed Nawotka delved into the opportunities and challenges presented by AI, offering valuable insights into the future of audiobook publishing.

Renowned author and screenwriter Liu Zhenyun took center stage in a session celebrating the global impact of Chinese literature. Joined by Jenny Niven, Nicky Harman, and Alicia Liu, Zhenyun discussed the universal appeal of Chinese storytelling and its power to bridge cultural divides.

The day concluded with a special reception celebrating Gloria Bailey MBE, recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Bailey’s incredible contribution to the book industry was recognized by industry professionals and peers, who gathered to honor her achievements.

As The London Book Fair 2025 draws to a close, the publishing industry is abuzz with creativity, innovation, and a renewed passion for storytelling. The fair’s second day highlighted the power of literature to inspire, educate, and connect people across cultures and borders.
