Media organisations should have equality policies that advance women into management – Strictly Speaking Veteran, Bimbo Oloyede

Age is, but, a number. That expression encapsulates Madam Bimbo Oloyede, who, despite having garnered three dozens and a quarter of dozen number to her existence on earth, continues to give younger women who are digital natives and digital adopters including the tech laggards a good run for their relevance, expertise, personal development and impact.

With over forty five years spanning her foray across the media landscape, Aunty Bimbo, as some of us fondly call her, adds her voice in this Special LightRay! 100 Women in Leadership Development Series along with other Women in the media calling on Media Owners and organisations to have better corporate governance systems in place that inspires a well-thought out workplace policy that enables women in media to stay relevant and advance in their careers with a view to increasing the staying power of more women into media leadership positions.

Enyaharo Isoko tasks states and federal govts to revive technical education to drive technological innovation across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions

. . . while celebrating the academic achievements of three Isoko youngsters – Miss Orevaoghene Whiskey of Topfaith International Secondary School, Essien Udim, Akwa Ibom, who scored straight 9-As in her WAEC result and Miss Michelle Ogheneserome Amarie of Lead-Forte Gate College, Lekki, Lagos, who also scored straight 8-As in her WAEC. The third, Master Favour Oghenero Anthony, an SS2 student of James Welch Grammar School, Emevor, Isoko North LGA, Delta State, built and test-flew an aeroplane and a drone, the awardees received N200,000 each and a plaque, with a friend of Isoko, Chief Emmanuel Eke, boosting their cash haul with N300,000.

WABMA’s Election Reporting Award: Juliet Buna, Crest FM, emerges Winner

Miss Juliet Buna, a graduate of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, emerged victorious in the “Broadcast Category” of the WABMA Political Reporting Project on Friday, at the American Corner, Ikeja, Lagos.

Her award-winning story on women in politics, titled “Harassed to defeat”, aired on Crest 91.1FM, Ibadan, where she is currently a reporter and editor.

Juliet’s winning story for the award, which comes with a scholarship, was also a part of the African Women in Media (AWiM) Women in Politics Fellowship, 2023.
