Tripoli, Libya – Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, dramatically withdrew from their scheduled match against Libya’s national team on Tuesday, citing inhumane treatment and harassment by their hosts.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) condemned the actions, highlighting the mistreatment of players, including discriminatory behavior towards goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who has a prosthetic leg.

“They laughed at my prosthetic leg, asking if I was hiding something inside,” Uzoho recounted.

Team captain Ahmed Musa described the experience: “We were treated like animals. They searched our hotel rooms, confiscated our passports, and subjected us to humiliating security checks.”

The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for FIFA intervention.

“This treatment is unacceptable,” said Nigerian Sports Minister, Sunday Dare. “FIFA must take decisive action against Libya.”

Hauwa Mohammed, a Nigerian Paralympian, emphasized the need for improved disability inclusion in sports: “This incident highlights the challenges PLWDs face.”

NFF President Amaju Pinnick stated: “We prioritize our players’ safety and dignity. We can not subject them to such conditions.”

The Nigerian government has pledged to investigate, ensuring measures are taken to prevent future occurrences.
