NIJ Provost Commends Omojuyigbe’s Latest Addition to Nigeria’s Media Literary Canon

Nigeria’s news media literary scene is developing and evolving. And few news reporters, editors and publishers are beginning to understand the priceless nature of documenting news media histories and stories in Nigeria: the good, the bad, the ugly. In this Special edition, LightRay! Media unveils the writing masterpiece of one of Nigeria’s news giant, Dr. Dele Omojuyigbe, Deputy Provost, Nigerian Institute of Journalism.

In an era marked by a burgeoning thirst for knowledge, the indispensable role of documenting and chronicling experiences can not be overstated.

This timeless tradition of writing was underscored as Dr. Dele Omojuyigbe, Deputy Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, unveiled his ninth literary offering on February 7, 2024, amidst an eager audience gathered at the school’s auditorium.

A cross section of representatives of current NIJ Post Graduate students at the book launch: “NIJ’s Inside Stories: The Beau and the Bend”, authored by the Deputy Provost of the institute, Dele Omojuyigbe, Dr.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Gbenga Adefanye, the Institute’s Provost, lauded the author’s adept craftsmanship in penning a work that seamlessly weaves together history and storytelling, a departure from his previous technical volumes which have become fixtures in his personal library.

Echoing Mr. Adefanye’s sentiments, Dr. (Mrs.) Khadijat Adedeji-Olona, a distinguished alumna of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism and the book’s reviewer from Lagos State University, delved into the intricacies of “NIJ’s Inside Story: The Beauty and the Bend.” With its 19 chapters, the book chronicles the journey of the institute, spotlighting luminaries such as the revered Alhaji Lateef Jakande, among others.

Dr. (Mrs.) Khadijat Adedeji-Olona, a distinguished alumna of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism and book’s reviewer from Lagos State University.

She underscored the thematic undercurrents of triumph and evolution that permeate the narrative, shaping the Institute’s trajectory over the years.

Notable figures, including Mr. Lekan Otunfodunrin, Executive Director of Media Career, Mrs. Patricia Kalesanwo, the school’s registrar, esteemed lecturers like Mr. Kami, Mr. Jack, Mr. Gbemisile, and Jide Johnson, Dr., the MC of the event, and a host of students from NDI to post graduates graced the occasion, bearing witness to the culmination of Omojuyigbe’s literary endeavor.

Professor Gbenga Adefanye, Provost NIJ, hands over copies of “NIJ’s Inside Stories: The Beau and the Bend”, authored by Dr. Dele Omojuyigbe to notable attendees within Nigeria’s news media landscape: Otufodunrin, Osuji (Dr.), etc., as they make their pledges.

As the event drew to a close, Dr. Omojuyigbe extended his gratitude to all present, marking the end of a memorable public presentation of his latest contribution to the literary landscape.
